Recognition is important to young boys. The Cub Scout advancement plan provides fun for the boys, gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges, and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with boys on advancement projects.
Tiger Advancement was in the past very informal, however many packs are starting to bring the young tigers pack into the pack. In Pack 1777, our tiger den(s) are involved in every aspect of the pack and it's events. In 2002 the entire Tiger Scouting program changed, you can learn about these changes here (in Adobe PDF format). In the past young tigers collected iron-on Tiger paws, but today they receive more formal awards.
To begin his path to the Tiger Cub rank, the Tiger Cub must learn the Tiger Cub motto (Search, Discover, Share), and the Cub Scout sign, and the Cub Scout salute. When he has accomplished these tasks, he will be awarded his Tiger Cub belt totem. This is normally done at a Pack meeting or event in front of the entire pack.
Once the boys have earned the totems, the boy and their adult partner (Akela) will work towards earning the Tiger Cub badge by competing five achievements which are grouped in three areas, Den Activity, Family Activity and Go See it. You can learn about the 5 activities below. The boy will receive colored beads to place on his totem to show his progress towards the rank of Tiger Cub.
- The white bead is earned each time the boy does one of the activites with his family.
- The orange bead is earned when the boy does an activity with his den
- The black beads are earned when the boy goes on a Go See It (outing or fieldtrip with his den).

Once the boy has earned 5 or more beads of each color he earns the rank of Tiger Cub. The boy has now learned about responsibility, citizenship, health and fitness, respect, and faith. He will be promoted to his new rank of Tiger Cub in a formal Pack meeting.
The new Tiger and his Adult partner can do electives any time while he are a Tiger Cub. After he have worked together on 10 electives, (and you have earned he Tiger Cub rank), he will receive a Tiger Track Bead to put on your Tiger Cub Belt Totem. You may earn as many Tiger Track beads as you want. More information about Tiger Elective can be found here.
